How Can You Improve Your Search Engine Optimization?

Looking to improve search engine optimization for your website?

You're in the right place. As I mentioned in my last post, SEO is a great strategy to learn. I do admit that it's one of the more difficult strategies to learn. Not only that, but it's also a strategy that requires a lot of elbow grease. I'm just telling you how it is. With great reward comes a great price. You've heard that, right?

What are some areas that you can improve?

  • Primary and secondary keywords for the home page
  • Blog post keywords
  • Services and category pages
1. Keywords for the home page

I recently quit MLM and promoting solutions to network marketers. That meant that I needed to go into the META information and make changes. I had to find a primary keyword for my home page, edit the title, description, and keyword tags.

One of the nice things about a home page is that you don't necessarily need to worry about the competitiveness of the keywords. Reason being, when people find your website, they rarely land on your home page. Make sure you pick a keyword that fits the overarching theme of the site.

Here's an example: Let's say you sell ear candles and you sell different kinds. A primary keyword would be a generic term like 'ear candles' or 'buy ear candles'.

2. Blog post keywords

I am a big fan of blogging with a purpose. Rather than just blogging about whatever, like a lot of bloggers do,  blogging with a purpose focuses on specific keyword, keywords or keyword phrases.

There are many different ways to find keywords. The most common ones are The Google Keyword Tool and Market Samurai. I use both. My favorite tool is Market Samurai because it makes it really easy to find long tail keywords.

3. Services and category pages

You can optimize these pages and you should. If you have a service business, then you want to focus on keywords that have a location element to them. An example would be: laundromat Orem Utah.

Continuing with the ear candle example, you can optimize each one of the category pages. Each category page would sell a different kind of ear candle.

When your optimizing these pages, make sure the keyword is on the page 1-2 times and in the META tags.
